Seiichi Tomotaki
I sincerely appreciate for the grant for young researchers to participate in the 23rd Congress of the FAOPS 2024 in Seoul.
In the congress, I presented an oral presentation of the “Consensus on the Importance of Outcomes of Preterm Infants in Japan”. This presentation is on “evaluation of the importance of outcomes” which is necessary for clinical guideline development. It was part of the activities of a clinical guideline development group called Japan Evidence-Based Neonatology (JEBNeo) under the Japan Society for Neonatal Health and Development. We evaluated the importance of many outcomes in wide variety of areas related to the care of preterm infants from a Japanese perspective, for the first time. The participation of not only medical staffs but also patients’ family members enabled this evaluation to be based on a wide range of perspectives. Our results can be used in developing clinical practice guidelines for preterm infants in Japan.
After my presentation, I received many questions from the audiences. I was able to discuss with the audiences what efforts we have made with regard to the participation of patients’ family members and what we can do to get more patients’ families to participate. I also received many compliments on the efforts to develop such guidelines in Japan and the participation of patients’ families.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved for this valuable opportunity.
