The Japan Society of Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine provided me with generous support to participate in the 23rd Congress of the Federation of Asia and Oceania Perinatal Societies in Seoul, Korea, which was my first visit to an international congress, and I was able to give a poster presentation. However, I only attended two days out of the total schedule as I adjusted my schedule. From my hometown of Kitakyushu City, I could reach the venue in less time than it would have taken me to attend a scientific meeting in Tokyo, Japan.
I reported on the limitations of bacterial microbiota analysis using NGS of vaginal fluids of pregnant women.
Many of the scientific sessions were in the field of neonatal medicine. Among the few obstetrics sessions, I found the session on “Current status of maternal GBS screening and impact on neonatal infection in FAOPS countries” very interesting, and it was a meaningful experience for the future of my clinical research. It was a great opportunity to learn about ongoing medical perinatal care in other Asian and Oceania countries.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Imai and Dr. Tsuge at Kenwakai Otemachi Hospital and my collaborators Dr. Shibata at Dokkyo Medical University, Dr. Kondo at Kokura National Medical Center, and the Japan Society of Perinatal and Newborn Medicine involved in FAOPS for giving me this precious opportunity.
