Hasumi Tomita
My name is Hasumi Tomita from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tohoku University.
At the FAOPS congress, I presented two studies: one on the clinical effectiveness and reproductive outcomes of a uterine compression suture and another on a nationwide survey conducted by the Japanese Neonatal Resuscitation Committee. The presentation on uterine compression sutures generated considerable interest, with many questions focusing on technical aspects. Regarding the neonatal resuscitation survey, it was noteworthy that the presentation was delivered by an obstetrician, and a Nepalese neonatologist serving as session chair highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration beyond professional boundaries.
I also visited three tertiary care hospitals in Kathmandu. Paropakar Hospital, which manages approximately 27,000 deliveries annually, was particularly impressive. Although the emergency transport system differs substantially from that in Japan, many of the clinical challenges encountered were familiar, underscoring both shared issues and context-specific constraints in perinatal care.
Finally, I observed the NNCPR instructor course at Paropakar Hospital. Despite being newly established, the program was conducted with strong commitment and adaptability, reflecting efforts to tailor neonatal resuscitation education to the local clinical environment.
I sincerely appreciate the financial support for my participation in FAOPS. The insights gained will be actively applied to clinical practice, education, and research, contributing to the advancement of perinatal emergency care and neonatal resuscitation in Japan and across Asia.
