I attended the PSANZ and FAOPS Joint Congress, an international meeting focused on perinatal medicine and obstetrics. The conference brought together clinicians and researchers from across the Asia-Pacific region, providing valuable insights into current trends and challenges in maternal–fetal medicine.
A major highlight was the growing emphasis on fetal growth restriction (FGR) and placental dysfunction. Several presentations demonstrated advances in fetal monitoring, particularly the integration of Doppler ultrasound and biochemical markers for improved risk stratification. These approaches aim to optimize the timing of delivery and improve perinatal outcomes.
I also had the opportunity to deliver an oral presentation entitled “Cerebral Oxygenation Dynamics During the Transition from Placental to Pulmonary Circulation in Term Neonates.” It was encouraging to see strong interest and engagement from the audience. The questions and discussions that followed provided valuable perspectives and highlighted the clinical relevance of this topic.
Another important theme was the application of evidence-based strategies in routine clinical practice, including the management of high-risk pregnancies such as hypertensive disorders and preterm birth. Preventive interventions, such as aspirin use in early pregnancy, were also emphasized.
Overall, the congress provided a comprehensive overview of recent advances in perinatal medicine and reinforced the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration. The knowledge gained will contribute to improving clinical practice and patient care in my institution.
